Some of the oldest bars in Granada follow the most Traditional Shops article.
The most traditional cafés and bar in Granada have been open for over a century and are many are still in business today.
Unfortunately the jewel in the crown El Suizo is no longer open. This emblematic café closed in 1986 and was sadly converted into a fast food restaurant.
Occupying a grand building in Puerta Real in the heart of the commercial centre of Granada the Café Suizo was opened in 1870. The business ran successfully for 116 years. The impressive interior and convenient locations drew locals and visitors alike. One of the most popular items sold there was the leche rizada. (a thick milkshake made with cinnamon lemon and sugar)
You can see what it was like before it closed in this video> Gran Café Suizo Granada
Oldest Bars in Granada
Taberna Casa Enrique
This characterful bar has been open since 1870 and is the oldest bar in Granada. (3rd oldest in Andalucia) The walls are lined with old photos and the best hams and chorizo. As this is a wine cellar the emphasis is on great wines and good cheese and hams. Free tapas aren´t served here but even so its worth popping in for a round or two especially if you are a wine lover.

Restaurante Sevilla
Sadly this restaurant closed in 2017
Located next to Granada Cathedral, the Restaurante Sevilla opened in 1930. Over the years they have welcomed Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston and Salvador Dalí through it´s doors. Oxtail and Sacromonte Omelette are the house specialities. I have eaten here a few times and enjoyed the typical Granada food. I especially remember that they do great desserts. They sometimes do Flamenco nights too (seen on the video below) You can choose to have a sit down meal or just tapas at the bar.

Gran Café Bib Rambla
The oldest café is the Gran Café Bib Rambla. This opened in 1907 and was known as the Cafetin del Gato (Little Café of the Cat) bu the name changed early on to the Gran Café Bib Rambla. Open all day from 8am, enjoy breakfast here, a sandwich at lunchtime or a cold beer outside on the terrace overlooking Bib Rambla square. It is certainly one of the oldest bars and still one of the most popular due to its central location.

Traditional Ice cream
Also worth a mention is Los Italianos on Gran Vía. This traditional ice cream shop has been open since 1936 and is always very busy when it opens from March to October. Although it´s not been open 100 years yet I´m sure they will have no problem reaching that anniversary. They are as popular with locals and visitors in Granada.
*Insider tip*
At the back of Los Italianos on Calle Abenamar there are tables with waiters if you prefer not to queue for an ice cream at the busy counter.
Dear Molly, you really give some fantastic information about all aspects of how to enjoy Granada and where to eat,
visit and what you can explore. Thank you so much.
One question, do you know any jazz cafes that you could recommend or where my husband and I could go to listen
to jazz and have a pleasant evening? We are retired couple and live in Niguelas. My husband loves jazz.
Please, if you can recommend a place, I would be very grateful.
Kind regards, Elina
