Can you believe that Hotel Alhambra Palace is in the heart of the Alhambra woods?
This historic hotel is close to the Nasrid Palaces. Just 650 metres to the Lions Courtyard from the hotel reception.
Not only is it convenient to visit the Alhambra Palace & Generalife it is also the most emblematic place to stay in Granada.
This impressive hotel has some exciting news this month and I couldn´t wait to find out the latest update.
An Historic Hotel
110 years ago in 1908 The Duque de San Pedro de Galatino designed this hotel project. The opening ceremony of this luxurious hotel was overseen by His Majesty the king Alfonso the 13th of Spain in 1910.
Since then the Hotel Alhambra Palace is important presence in the city of Granada. Involved in culture, arts and music scene as much as in the tourism and local business community.
This month the hotel enters into a new chapter of history achieving five stars. Today I went along to the Press Conference to hear how the project unfolded and learn about the new facilities.
The same family have managed the business since 1910, that’s 107 years. Four generations of Granada hotel owners hosting Royal visitors Hollywood Stars and other VIPs.
5 star Hotel Alhambra Palace
Achieving the fifth star for this historic building was not a simple task. As the hotel is located so close to the Alhambra Palace it took careful planning.
The hotel is actually situated within the Alhambra grounds. The project followed close guidance from UNESCO. Noise and vibrations during the work minimised. As well as the exterior lighting of the building were important considerations for the team behind this redesign.
Other environmental matters were taken into account by the project team too.
Located in the Alhambra Woods
The Alhambra palace hotel is nestled amongst leafy green lanes within the Alhambra woods. Perched above the Realejo district. The hotel is above the city. This vantage point offers wonderful views to the visitor. Not only from the rooms but also from its balcony bar and restaurant tables.
From some of the rooms you can take in views of the Alhambra itself. Vistas of the Torre de Comares or the Torre de la Vela seem to be within arms reach.
Another benefit to this location is the varied cultural offer on the doorstep.
- Carmen de los Martires – A beautiful park which often holds events and weddings.
- Manuel de Falla Concert hall also has a musical programme throughout the year. The Museum of Manuel de Falla is also in this area too.
- International Festival of Music and Dance (FEX) held at the Alhambra every year in summertime. (June-July)
- Fundacion Rodriguez Acosta is next to the Hotel Alhambra Palace. This Museum and Garden has stunning views across the city. Sculptures in the romantic garden and the Institute of Gomez Moreno will be a hit with art lovers.
Transport to and from the hotel is also simple for guests.
- Taxis available at the main entrance
- Bus stop at the door. Take the C3 at Plaza Isabel La Catolica and it leaves you at hotel main entrance.
- Walk from the hotel down to Campo del Principe is 400 metres (525 steps) into Realejo district
- Walk to Cuesta Gomerez. 600 metres downhill and arrive at Plaza Nueva (the historic centre) (790 steps)

The dining options at this exclusive hotel come with panoramic views.
Enjoy a tapas selection with views from the balcony bar as the sunsets. Head to the restaurant to savour local dishes made with seasonal ingredients.
The lobby bar has a great cocktail and drinks list. Extensive and up to date with a variety of mocktails.
Whether you want your favourite classic long drink or to avoid alcohol it will be on the list.
The mudejar style interiors with intricate walls and archways remind you where you are located. Recreating the atmosphere of the Alhambra Palace, it will be a memorable stay.
